Blue Cross Blue Shield

Mom has medical bill and my brother insists that I not process the claim with Medcare.  He says Blue Cross will cover more of the costs,  Problem is we don't have any info regarding her policy.  No ID# policy # nothing.  Last time I tried to talk to someone the would not talk to me without her sayso  and she would not say YES to the phone to the representative.  Anyone have experience with this insurance situation?  My btother handles all her affairs and insists he doesn't have any paperwork from Blue Cross.

If she has a Blue Cross Medigap policy (which is what it sounds like), then Medicare is always primary. They get the bill first, then send a statement of the balance to Blue Cross. If the bills are from any providers she has dealt with in the past, they should already have the insurance numbers in their files. You don't have the option of not sending them to Medicare. But of your brother handles her affairs (and especially if he has power of attorney), I would let him figure this all out unless there is a strong reason for you to get involved.

Adding to what Cynbar said: :  If she had instead a Blue Cross Medicare Advantage Plan,  then that plan handles both the Medicare and supplement claim handling.  Is that what your brother means? Regardless, she should have ID cards in her purse:  either one for Medicare and one for. Blue Cross medigap plan, or one for a Blue Cross Advantage plan.

Give the bill to your brother to handle.  Or call the provider and tell them to hill the insurance directly.  They probably already have  her information.  The last time we were at a doctor, they could verify coverage for my spouse  on the spot.
