Not sleeping a night

I moved my parents to live with me since my mom has stage four cancer and she was taking care of my dad with Alzheimer’s alone. We have been trying different things to get him to sleep at night with no avail. If any one has any thoughts or ideas that work please advise . Thanks

    Claimme13,

Welcome to the forum.  On here you will find a lot of good advice and some advice to take with a grain of salt....  I am probably offering the later!

I would consult with your father's general practitioner on this.  My 82 year old father has been taking 10 mg of ambien every night for years and he swears by it, but it may not be the right solution for your father.  Maybe OTC melatonin is worth a try, but I would have his doctor recommend and monitor the results.

You have a tough situation with your parents, and I sincerely wish you and them well.

    Pie

Claim me, sleep fragmentation is common with Alzheimer’s and likely will require medication, I second Jerome on that. Seroquel has worked very well for my partner with no side effects and had the additional benefit of taking the edge off her sundowning and anxiety. Worth asking about.

My husband has taken 15 mg of Mirtazapine ( Remeron) since diagnosis 5 years ago and has always slept tru the night which is a huge blessing because I am a light sleeper
