Something New(1)

I noticed something new with Mom the last few days.  Sometimes, when we are visiting, and I am talking, she will be looking in my direction, but her eyes are not focused on my face - it's like she is looking through me.  I haven't read anything on this, has anyone else experienced this?   I also experienced her not knowing me as her daughter for the first time, but I believe it was momentary.

Hi Wyoming D - yes, we get that sometimes.  She gets a 'clouded look' and at that moment, we know she doesn't hear a word we are saying.

Sorry to hear you hit the non-recognition part.

Yep, she’s either thinking about “who the …. are you” or hearing “blah blah blah mommy, blah blah blah” or thinking “um yeah…no… you will not take this piece of trash away from me, no way, no how!”

I've seen that too - the looking right through you. And a related perception thing - my sister and I were going through her closet to get rid of extra clothes and I'd pull something out and say "how about this one?", and she would respond "which one?" She didn't see what I had in my hand until I shook the clothes hanger a bit. Then I was able to get her attention. She was less than a foot away from me.

A social worker told me that sometimes they zone out, and that was probably what was happening.  I don't know if that's true or not. It's weird when it happens.
