Refusing medications / How to administer meds

My dad is now refusing to eat the pudding that I crush his medicine in. We have a doctor appointment on Monday so I will be finding out from his doctor if any of his meds can come in liquid form so I can just quickly get it down him.

Is there any other way you managed to get your LO meds down when they refused? I am mostly concerned with getting his sleeping pills down him at night.

I crush my mom’s pills now after removing many of them from her regimen.  I mix it up every day…yogurt, pudding, applesauce, jelly on her toast etc…. After the initial couple of  spoonfuls of meds, I give her more of the yummy without meds so the taste of the food leaves a good taste in her mouth.  Not sure if this really helps or not, so far so good.  If the meds aren’t completely obliterated into powder it doesn’t work for me.  I have a syringe that I can dilute pills and turn them into liquid if necessary, even to just squirt ‘em in her mouth.

“Pill burden” is a frustrating challenge.  Hope you find a working solution.

For any reading this thread, please check with the doc or pharmacy to be sure the meds can be crushed or melted in water before giving to LO.

Some meds specifically say...do not crush.

Absolutely agree with loveskitties  about checking with pharmacist.  I actually removed a med that can’t be crushed.
