Supplements specific for cognitive decline

Hey All,

I wondered whether any of you have any faith in herbal remedies for dementia?  I feel like so much attention gets placed on western medicine when it comes to dementia that most every herbal remedy/supplement out there gets laughed at.

Do you all have any thoughts about this?

Thanks,

Elizabeth

I do believe that certain herbal treatments help in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease.  In the case of direct inhalation aromatherapy, it helped largely stablize my mother's condition for five years.  I never had the opportunity to use panax ginseng but there is a study suggesting that it can largely stabilize Alzheimer's disease for at least two years.

I cannot say I have faith in anything but I have read a few articles claiming that colostrinin and low-dose lithium in combination show promise for slowing cognitive decline and preventing the progression to dementia. In the few studies I could find on the subject, the dosages mentioned were small: About 100 mcg of colostrinin ever other day and 1000 mcg of lithium daily.

None of the researchers claimed it would cure Alzheimer's but only that it *might* slow the progression of the condition.

The role of magnesium (Mg) in dementia has received increased attention in recent years.  Nothing is conclusive but in animal studies it showed some promise as a neuroprotective element. You may have seen it marketed as "Magtein" or "Magnesium L-Threonate".

Bear in mind that I am not a doctor nor do I play one on TV.

Blueberries, strawberries, Brazil nuts, and fish oil are known to be good for cognition.  The Mediterranean diet is a good general guide.  In general, if it's good for the heart it's good for the brain.

I believe in traditional medicine, even though most people think it doesn’t work. Many well-known medical drugs are based on plants and chemicals we can find there. That’s why there’s no surprise certain plants might be useful for us.
I also think that the western world, especially the US, is overmedicated. People are ready to take tons of pills daily and don’t even think there might be side effects. That’s why I try to use remedies made of natural ingredients like  NooCube review or tinctures, oils, ointments, and drops made directly from plants. Eating fresh vegetables and berries is also good for your memory and mental state.
