No Unrealistic expectations but hard not to hope

Hi all

My mom had a rough time through the holidays and her behaviors changed.  She thought my dad ( who died 39 years ago) was not calling her and cheating on her.  She was very angry and difficult to pivot   She wasn’t sleeping which exacerbated things.  Neuro put her on trazadone and a week later upped the duloxetine ( she had been on lowest dosage). Within a week we saw improvement and another week and such a difference.  Forgets dad died most of the time but when she asks about him we pivot beautifully to her remembering -and missing him but so happy she had him and he was great husband and father.

Her short term memory is no better but she remembers something’s from each day ( besides long term). The neighborhood kids bringing her a cake to the door and singing to her and helping us shovel.  Her companion told me today was like when she first met her six months ago.  I know this is temporary. She will hit a new wall , stage or need for new / increased meds but it’s hard to not feel hope that today is a good day and I know to cherish these.  I know everyone is different and progresses at different pace but am curious how quickly does this plateau last?  She is stage 5 and her routine helps.  Showers, cleans house, wears appropriate clothes, eats.   Hoping this lasts awhile.  I love seeing her happy and telling me how lucky she is

Sounds like you're doing a great job.  Hope this stage lasts a long while.
