The importance of a plan B

This topic comes up a lot. Here's a very sad story about a caregiver and the importance of a Plan B.

There was a couple in their 80's in the assisted living section of DH's long term care facility. The husband has dementia and the wife was the caregiver. On Sunday morning the husband was walking around the halls telling people his wife was asleep and wouldn't wake up. Turns out she unexpectedly passed away in her sleep. Fortunately for them, there was ONE opening in MC and I saw the grandsons quickly moving some furniture, etc into that room within hours. He was very confused and kept asking where his wife was. He seems to be settling in now though. Not sure if that was a planned Plan B, but I'm happy it worked out for them. Just something to think about.

It's too easy for caretakers to put the plan B planning on the back burner. But when it's needed, there is nothing more important than to have it in place.
