And it is a work in progress. Trying for more of an ending.

A true story: She was sixteen
In front of her house  She stood waiting For what would probably be  Her first time dating But as luck would have it  He didn’t show I happened by  And said “Hello”
Almost two years later, we got married
Another two years, and a bundle of joy Yet another two years, another boy Our children numbered seven, then eight Then with time  Came number nine
She was a high school dropout  But that didn’t matter Her goal - to be an RN And have an alma mater She made it through at the top of her class And she has proof to put under glass
But those were the days When our hearts were high And we welcomed the future With nary a sigh
Now that we’re old Life took a new path When we were told Get ready for it’s rath
She has dementia

Nice Ed. I like it, and I don't normally like poems.  Good job.

Ed!   You are truly, a "man of all seasons," as the saying goes. . . (Per the Idiom Dictionary:  "a man who is ready to cope with any contingency and whose behaviour is always appropriate to every occasion. ")

No kidding and no false compliment, it is an excellent writing and clear as glass and has deep meaning.  Really Ed; it would be great if you continued your writing talent; there is a lot of creativity inside of you just waiting to be nurtured and shared.

Great thing about writing - it takes little else than pen and paper, or a computer and bits of time whenever and can be done just about anywhere.  (When I have written, I have found my brain is happier with pen and paper rather than computer for creative thinking.)

Want to start slowly to be published with this poem?  Go online to, "Chicken Soup For The Soul."  They are a popular book company consistently putting out new books with contributions from a variety of writers just like yourself. If they do print your poem or any other writing, they pay $200 for each published submission and also provides ten copies of the book your writing is in.   Just watch the book titles; they have many coming up for future print and you will find various topics you may want to submit a writing about and will find the book your poem will fit into.

In any case, thank you very much for sharing this; it has made my morning.

    J.

keep going.  before you know it, you'll have a collection.  then you can pass them on to your children for posterity.

What a beautiful poem! I don't think you need to finish it at all - it's fine the way it is!
