First I want to thank everyone for their kind replies to the other thread. Writing is not who I am. I am a builder, a fixer, and put my arms around physical work. But a writer? No way! Anyhow here it is:
A true story: She was sixteenIn front of her house She stood waiting For what would probably be Her first time dating But as luck would have it He didn’t show I happened by And said “Hello”
Almost two years later, we were married
Another two years, and a bundle of joy Yet another two years, another boy Our children numbered Seven then eight Then with time Came number nine
She, a high school dropout But that didn’t matter Her goal - to be an RN And have an alma mater She made it through at the top of her class And she has proof to put under glass
But those were the days When our hearts were high And we welcomed the future With nary a sigh
Now that we’re old Life takes a new path Since she has dementia Prepare for it’s wrath
She no longer cooks She no longer cleans She no longer looks Toward any big thing
Her speech is fragile Words are a battle But it’s nothing new And I’ll make it through
Her bathroom habits Now uncontrolled But she is my wife To love And to hold
