Hi everyone. First time posting here, which I'm nervous about for some reason?

Anyway, I'm looking for my dad to get some daily help at home (light cleaning, medication reminders, encouragement to take walks, etc. – nothing medical yet). Does anyone in the Cleveland/NE Ohio area have experience with agencies that they would either recommend, or recommend I avoid?

I'm also curious about the exact terminology for the kind of help he needs. Home health aid? Home companion? Caretaker? I've seen so many terms in my research that I'm not exactly what to say when I start speaking with agencies.

Hi Danielle and welcome! Don’t be nervous, we are all pretty nice here and mostly in the same leaky boat.

I’m not from your area but I would look at care.com put in your zip code and see what results you get. Since your Dad does not need medical assistance, I would look for companion rather than caregiver. Once you get an idea of price range in your area, you can compare that to the home health aid companies in his area and see which you prefer. There are pros/cons to each. I would recommend placing a few cameras around for added protection but that’s just me.

Hi Danielle, I am not in your area but would advise to not hire someone from an agency that works with a contract. We paid six months for service and it did not work out. My Mom kept kicking the caregivers out. The agency would not refund our money even though we had caregivers for only one week. During that week they never did anything because my Mom was so upset they left. The agency never even tried to work with their caregivers to learn how to engage someone with dementia.

Billing for hours of service actually worked would be my advise.
