Hospice had denied my hubby three months ago but now

they Ok'd him for services. And not due to his dementia but because of his heart issues.  They already had oxygen delivered in case he needs it and a "comfort" pack of meds.  They said a nurse will come over once a week and can get an aide, a chaplain and social worker. They will order most of his meds now.  The nurse that evaluated him tested his O2 it was 95 resting when she got him up with the walker after 9 very slow steps it dropped to 85.  Most likely why he is falling so much getting light headed but he can't describe that to me.

The aides I had from another agency well two were great the others either did not show up or sat on their phones,   I hope the hospice aides are better trained.

Those that use or used hospice any tips on getting the best care and relief.  I truly am very tired and need the help.

Ask them for a complete list of services! We were able to get massage therapy, a bath aide, 4 hours every week respite help in addition to the every two week visit by the nurse. Hospice agencies vary so check and see what they can offer, and then say YES!  to everything.

Hi- our hospice service was great for getting us equipment that we needed. Be sure to ask for suggestions for equipment to help in care and safety.

The nurse was not very attentive- the NP was. The aide was great. Would suggest you have a list of what you want the aide to help with.

Our hospice service also had a wound care nurse that we asked for when skin issues came up. There are also supplies that can be obtained thru hospice- diapers, pads, lotions, etc.

    Hope this helps.

In addition to everything above, we also have music therapy come in every couple few weeks for about an hour, my mom loves that.

Thank you all for your replies. I have met the RN, the chaplain and social worker they are all very nice. LPN will be here next week to bath/shower him, then RN back to do vitals etc. She did tell me not to buy anything anymore they will provide even wipes etc.

My emotions all over the place. Hubby tells me this morning he wishes I would leave, to drop dead, he hates me then this afternoon tells me I'm the best thing that ever happened to him.

He is now incontinent most of the time, when he does use his urinal he either spills it or falls asleep holding it.

He tried hitting me again this morning when I was changing his depends .

His wound under his belly opened up again, its chronic closes up then reopens just have to keep treating it.
