Losing your wife

She's still here, but every day Alzheimer's takes away a little more. I'm the sole caregiver. She cries a lot of the time. Nothing consoles her. I'm having a hard time after three years remembering the woman I married ...

Hi LeBret - welcome to 'here'... where we wish we weren't, but so glad it is available...

She could be depressed. Have you told her doc she is crying a lot?  Sometimes a PWD will just cry, and sometimes an anti-depressant or anti-agitation medicine may work.

Also - are you getting any respite for yourself?  Maybe a friend or another family member for at least a few hours a week or so?

and yeah - I hear you - all of 'this' just sucks.

Hi LeBret; in addition to depression and agitation, there's a dementia-related condition called pseudobulbar affect that can make people laugh and cry inappropriately.  There's a specific drug called Nuedexta that's somewhat effective.  It would be worth reading about and asking her docs.  Good luck.  And yes, it's heartbreaking to lose your spouse to this terrible slow death.
