Great!
My cable & internet bill is more than my utility bill. When DW quits watching TV or at least quits caring how I provide it, it will be gone.

Stuck, I put one of the major channels on in the morning, and it usually stays on all day. Rarely does she ask me to change the channel. And since I don't watch much TV at all, it's a no brainer for me.0

Good onya.
We cut out regular cable years ago after being with them for nearly 30 years when our “contract” ran out and they stated they could not find a discount like newbies pay. Ok, then…you are not interested in keeping your long time, loyal customers…just being able to tout record new ones for your advertising. If I had another alternative out here in Podunk, they would be gone altogether.
My son gave us his Roku, which only requires and internet hook up. The bill was still higher than I wanted, but half of what it was going to be if I kept full service. I don’t miss all of those programs we thought we were addicted to.
Fast forward to last week when I received notice that through the ACP…Affordable Connectivity Program we qualify for a $30 / month reduction in our rate for the internet. That brings it down to a very affordable rate for us. Ask your provider.
‘Bout time we qualified for something helpful.

We are already signed up. Looks like my internet service will be about $30.00 a month, at least for a time. Netflix is $8.99 a month, and I could get rid of that too. Won't need anything else until baseball season, if there is one this year. We have a rooftop antennae, and get local (Chicago) channels very well.0

We got rid of our satellite about 15 years ago. I missed it for about a month. DS was about 7 at the time, and I did miss the kids shows that we could record and watch. Internet TV wasn't an option then - we had SLOW internet. It forced DS to look for something else to do. He's an excellent musician, and I think a big part of that was that he had nothing else to do but play guitar.
I recently got internet fast enough to stream tv, and have netflix. If only I had time to watch...

We got rid of our Satellite service about 4 years ago and switched to streaming. We connect with a Roku device and right now we’re subscribed to youtubetv for our local stations and cable type stations. It has unlimited cloud DVR and is a lot cheaper than cable or satellite. We do have to have an internet connection which is through Infinity, but we don’t use them for TV. Lots of choices when you stream and no contracts, just month to month. We still have Netflix and Amazon Prime TV. There are also lots of free channels on Roku. Roku is free once you buy the device.0

I cut my Comcast cable years ago but kept internet. I also have Comcast mobile, it is super inexpensive. I spend 14.00 a month for two phones with data, text etc.0

We have a 12ft rooftop antenna for everything local. Last month fiber finally became available so netflix streams without stopping now. Our fiber is 64$ for the first year. Next year 79.$ we don't have gig speed but 40mbps works. We stay on Netflix local news has to many triggers for my DW. local weather is always highlighting any little storm. CODE RED weather get her going.0

For any of you who want to cut the cable cord and are looking for choices, I'd encourage you to look at a digital TV antenna. We purchased one this month and are very, very happy with the quality of the picture AND the number of stations that we get. It is a one-time purchase of the equipment for $29 and no additional ongoing costs. The antenna is the size and thickness of a sheet of copy paper. I have it laying on the table surface below the tv. We have great reception even though we are about 15 miles out of the Phoenix city-center.

Here is the TV guide (you can select your zip code). We get about 70 channels; about half of them are duplicates. Lots of sitcoms and old-school TV shows.

Thanks JJAz - I am going to give the digital antenna a try!
We don't watch much or often, but when we do it has to be Hulu, YouTube (free), or Amazon Prime freebies when I can't find any other way to keep DH distracted. This means my laptop is hijacked for the duration and I can't get other work, emails, or forum reading and posting done.
But like Ed, I ditched the expensive cable TV long ago since there were WAY too many shopping and game show options and that didn't hold my interest or DH's at all. Can't afford to throw money out the window. He is at a stage where it sometimes helps to have other people, music, and comedy action happening in our day (although he often thinks the actors are real and still in the house later...those hallucinations aren't threatening like his initial ones were, so that trade-off will be OK if it gives him some entertainment and me a break!)

Those flat antennas are sure not your parent's rabbit ears, that's for sure.0

I applaud all who are cutting cable or satellite and going to streaming and I'm envious! We can't stream because we're in a dead zone out here - well, we can stream but takes 2-1/2 hours to watch an hour show with satellite internet and cellular strength is even worse. Keep hearing we're going to get Spectrum through the rural internet program and it can't get here fast enough for me.0

SO ONE ANTENNA PER TV?0

If you're talking about the new flat models that can be placed on a wall --- yes. But they are pretty cheaply priced. An outdoor setup like you might find on a roof can use a splitter to service more than one TV. That would probably not work well with the flat options because every time you split the signal, you lose a little quality. Besides, like I said, they are very affordable.0

Cool, I'm using this!0

I don't use television, but we use various streaming services. It is more convenient and I think it is more profitable. This Friday, my friends and I gathered to watch several movies in a row. But something happened with my internet. Fortunately, I quickly dealt with this situation through https://ultra-mobile.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html . We had a great evening, especially cheap!0

Here is a link to a weekly newsletter to save you some money. Give it a look for a couple of weeks before you decide if it's worth it or not (it is). https://cordcutterweekly.com/0

Ed since dw isn't here, I don't think I have watched it twice. I have prime and Netflix, but my 12 foot aluminum antenna does all I need. If dw isn't coming home I will probably lose streaming stuff altogether , I can use that money to help pay for mc. My TV came with a plus service that let's me all all the oldies and much more.0

Thanks JJazz-nice to see you again

When DH died, I went to Comcast to have them take DH's name off the bill. I brought along DH's death certificate. Our contract was up. Comcast is only 5 miles away so I thought it would be easier than calling.
I told them I wanted to compare costs with other companies and therefore was not planning on signing another contract that day....BUT, she said she could cut off $50 from my bill each month, without losing channels, etc. I signed a contract for another year. I was just too sad and wanted to check that chore off my list. Win-win for now. Next year, I'll take the plunge and look into other options.

Cccutting cord takes bravery and faith. I am on verizon internet. Next will be the landline and then the biggie...cable. I must have faith that all those programs will actually float through the air, find my TV and that all I have to do it turn it on. Looking at uTubetv.
Ed...interesting link...thanks.

The best thing I've done in a long time was to drop the satellite, and buy a Roku ,and a digital antenna. We hooked up to Netflix and Prime and still saving 100 bucks.0
