Hello, New here

Hello everybody, I’m so glad that I found this site. My Dad has dementia, we are not sure exactly what kind. He was first diagnosed with mild cognitive disorder. He has gotten really bad over the past year. We are definitely fortunate that my mom can be with him all the time and is his caregiver. I’m not sure what he knows about his diagnosis, he takes a lot of medication that we called memory pills. He has major sleeping problems. He will wake up at 1 o’clock in the morning, 3 o’clock in the morning and stay up all day. And he’s just so tired, but he says he can’t sleep. The doctor has him on Trazodone for sleep, but clearly it’s not working. My grandfather, my  Dad‘s Dad passed away from this disease. My Dad is also a twin, and we suspect his brother has it as well. My Uncle has a whole other amounts of problems he is an alcoholic and he is divorced, so he doesn’t have anyone that is there for him 24 seven. His son just decided to take him to a nursing home because he doesn’t know what else to do.  I try to be there as much as I can. My mom is amazing, but I know she needs some support. She can’t leave him alone, and he pretty much follows her everywhere. My heart is broken, as my Daddy has always been my hero. I just  don’t know how to cope and I worry about my Mom too, as being a caregiver is really tough. Any advice would be so much appreciated. Have a blessed day.
