Happy National Caregivers Day

It is National Caregivers Day. How are YOU celebrating? Or rather, how are others celebrating you?

I thought so.

I fantasize that when I have my life back I will somehow bring attention to this gaping wound in our healthcare system and society. But for today, alas, I am cleaning the toilet for the 11th time, listening to the same gibberish, taking the usual verbal abuse, and drinking myself as close to oblivion as can without being totally irresponsible of my duties.

I just saw this, and trying to smile instead of the alternative. No, of course I did not know this was even a day!

My therapist is always saying “I don’t know how you all do all this”  (about what caregivers deal with). 

Then she talks about how she can’t believe this terrible, tremendous need for help gets so little attention. I’ve tried telling her that everybody who’s affected by it is too tired to advocate, and it’s not like taking cute kids to Congress to promote schools, for example. 

You know what we say: you gotta be there. Hope your wine was good!

Oh good, there is a special day for us caregivers, dying to see what Hallmark comes up with, where are the flowers, the whisky, the chocolates. Oh yes I forgot, not happening. Sarcasm, keeps me going and yes it is anger turned inward.

I Hate to be cynical but there is nothing happy about caregiving. It simply sucks!

Honestly, I thought this must be a (bad) joke.  So I looked it up, and it’s the Providers’ Association of Home Health and Hospice Agencies (PAHHHA) that declared this holiday.  Bizarre.   No wonder no one knows about it.
