Stuck in the middle

I saw on the news that Nightbirde, a young woman with metastatic breast cancer, has died.  She sang an original song on America's Got Talent that brought the judges to tears.  Her message:

You can't wait until life isn't hard to be happy.

I heard the line as, You CAN’T wait until life isn’t hard to be happy.

Even more compelling that way, I think.  But yes, words to live by.

Beautiful young woman in every sense of the word.  

I used to have a poster (remember those?) called "How to Be Happy In Spite of Yourself."  Wish I still had it.  It got me through many dark times.

I watched the clip and yes, she said "You can't wait until life isn't hard to be happy."  Either the news show misquoted her or, more probably, I misquoted the news show.  I didn't see the original show because my wife doesn't like music on TV.
