Emergency help for patient

I have been trying to get my father into nursing care which has been a struggle.  He has been showing aggression towards my mother (caregiver) who does not handle him in the correct ways. He does well at the day center.  I really need an option to get him out of the home until I can get him into a nursing facility.  The situation isn't safe for either of them anymore. He was within days of being admitted into a facility and they suddenly decided they couldn't take him because of the aggression.

Thank you for any help.

I feel for you and your family, especially your poor dad. The statement in your post indicated your mom does not “handle” him in correct ways. I am sure she is doing her best. Please try to find a caregiver who is trained in dementia and related behaviors. It takes ALOT of skill and training to navigate these behaviors. It is best to investigate the “why” behind the behavior to prevent an outburst. Many behaviors are due to an UNMET NEED. This could be a past history of emotional trauma, fear, pain, or just a simple thing as time of day the task is being attempted. Maybe ask the workers or volunteers at his day center who has good luck with him if they have any insight or has ideas for you?

A quote I like is, “ Your loved one isn’t giving you a hard time, your loved one is HAVING A HARD TIME”. This brain disease is very difficult and different for everyone!

Take care of yourself! You are not alone!
