What State for Medicaid?

Many posters have reported difficulty obtaining financial assistance from State agencies and niggardly support at best.  Is there a source of information rating various States in this respect?

Would that there were Stuck. I work for our state Medicaid system and we are frequently looking for state by state comparisons but they are hard to come by. They all tend to be pretty opaque on what's covered and what the costs are. Drug prices for instance are completely secret.

This is an area where a CELA might be able to help to some degree.

The CELA my mom saw was licensed to practice in PA and NJ. She was also familiar with IL because her parents live there. She was able to compare. NJ will pay for a MCF while PA is SNF only. Perhaps it's the real reason Washington crossed the Delaware.

*I haven't heard the word "niggardly" used since attending a play at a Shakespeare theatre.

What's on paper can be different from what is actually available.

It definitely pays to compare states where placement is an option (i.e. state of residence of patient vs. state of residence of caregiver, adjoining states with easy travel time) - however -

sometimes other logistics dictate the placement.

For example, as primary caregiver, in theory, if we spent down for Medicaid, NJ technically covered Memory Care;   however, my CELA cautioned it was a limited program with a long waiting list (not current information) and it was unlikely I would tap into it.

It also wasn't feasible, even if it worked, to travel 2 hours while raising a young family to another state.

CELA's are a wealth of knowledge and worth every penny.
