Standing/walking

My FIL is quickly approaching the point he cannot stand or walk without two people. Even then, DH and I are practically carrying him. I’m pretty sure he is strong enough, he just does not know how to move his feet anymore.

What now? I have been getting him from the bed to a bedside chair in the mornings by myself, but that has become too much for me alone (and scary for both of us).

I have a call into hospice about getting a Geri chair in case transferring to that is easier. She is not sure Medicare will cover that, possibly just a high back wheelchair - will that work? I’m hoping for something I can slide him from the bed to the chair.

Hi, when my Mom stopped walking we were able to get a Sit to Stand machine from our hospice service. It is a machine that lifts the person into a standing position and you can easily move the person from bed to commode to chair etc... We were able to use just one person with transfers.

This machine was a God send which allowed us  safety not only for our Mom but also spared us from injury to our selves when transferring her.

    Hope this helps.

I remember that, I will ask about that as well. It is a battle to even get him sitting on the edge of the bed. He is strong enough to sit, but he fights it
