Pain from unknown causes

My DH was diagnosed VD last May. He complains of pain in several parts of his body. I've taken him to his doctor and ERs but they can find anything wrong. Marijuana seems to help. Is pain like this in anyway normal with VD?

    Hi Jade -

Depending on how far along he is, "pain" could mean something is uncomfortable, and they can't find the right words for that. Does he specifically point to any part of his body?  is he able to? Any arthritis that may only flare up sometimes?

My mother had odd pain for a while in the middle stages of Alz. She called it chest pain. Of course the first couple times we spent hours in the ER doing EKG and a host of things to rule out heart attack. They looked at the digestive system, turned over every stone and found nothing. It seemed like her brain was mis-firing and feeling pain for no reason or something. We started giving her half a tylenol and a Tums when it happened and that apparently was enough, she would stop saying it hurt. It passed after a few months and didn't happen any more. Could be anxiety or a hallucination. If marijuana or a placebo seems to help just go with it. It will probably pass before too long. It sounds like you have done your due diligence to rule out physical things that need treatment but do keep an eye out for issues he can't communicate. If it is causing problems or gets worse you might consult a geriatric psychiatrist if you don't find any cause.
