My two sisters stayed with me for my brother's funeral.  I have an American flag that flies day and night (it is lit and protected from rain).  I just got a package and note from my sisters enclosing a new flag since mine was faded and battered.     It also said "We also wish we could cheer you up about DW.  Your spirit is battered but you are an inspiration."

My flag us up 24/7 also except for a period when the Irish Republic flag is flown.

I fly both on such occasions 

Ireland plays England in the Six nations tomorrow
When DW became an Irish citizen we said she raised the average intelligence and lowered the average alcohol consumption. 
My Jewish grandsons are both Irish and Jewish and thus clearly the Chosen People
