I ran across this. It is long but chock full of great info from diagnosis to care.

Thanks jfkoc. This looks really helpful.  My LO has had an MRI (small vessel disease evident in brain) and some neuropsych testing which shows cognitive impairment, but it is proving difficult to get her to go to a specialist for an official diagnosis. I am trying to learn as much as I can while I figure out next steps.

Thanks for posting, jfkoc.  Yes, patients and families do need realistic expectations.

It’s a good read.  However I do not think that most psychiatrists dealing with dementia patients have the time to do all the explaining and supporting that is described here. This only works if the psychiatrist is seeing the patient weekly or no-weekly., which is not how dementia  patients are seen.
