Bad day turned GOOD

Today started out to be one of my DW's bad day.  Her hallucination and delusions was running wild this morning. I gave her morning medications (Quetiapine), which didn't even phase it, on top of that I had to get her ready for a doctors appointment. It was really a rough start plus her hallucinations are become more frequent and violent.

It's been cloudy and kind of cold here (OK) the last few days and that never helps her, After the doctors appointment we arrived home and she was still in rough shape. With in a hour of getting home the sun came out and it begin to warm up.  I was needing a break from the stress, so I grabbed my fishing pole, knowing I couldn't leave her by herself I put her rubber boots on and away went. We have a small pond that joins our property. I began fishing knowing I probably wouldn't catch anything just the fact of being outside with the sun in our face and the peace and quiet was my medicine.

My wife and I used to fish all the time together but over time the illness of dementia and being a fulltime care giver has made it almost impossible, but not today. Once I started fishing, with my wife be my side, she looked at me and said, "can I do this." I told her, "baby lets try." We worked on her casting for a good 30 minutes, she slowly picked up on some of what she used to be able to do, but she was smiling and she wasn't fighting with her delusions. I didn't fish the rest of the time at the pond, I just watched and helped her. It felt so good to see her in that moment.

I don't know if this was the right forum to express this, but I just had to tell someone. Thanks for reading

Scooterr that's a big deal, that is good medicine. That's something my dw and me used to enjoy sooo much. Scuba diving, fishing. She would spend more time lure looking. She would find every lure that someone had lost in a tree or bush. We had walked a river bank a couple weeks ago and she spotted three brought back good days for sure.  Sunshine on my shoulders good.

Thanks for sharing your good time!

There are people who fish for many years without realizing it isn't about catching fish.
