Paradoxical behaviors

Does this happen to anyone else? On days my FIL is more ornery with me, he is also more alert.   Like this morning, he was contrary to getting changed and up in his chair, but he has fed himself his whole breakfast with a spoon! (2 eggs and sausage cut up in gravy). We have days like this and days where he is like a limp noodle - easier to roll on the bed and dress, but really spaced out.

Is it the adrenaline? Is it possible he is STILL recovering from anesthesia (in January)? One nurse told me it can as much as 6 months.

He has been steadily improving in some areas (even gaining weight), but worsening in balance and ability to stand. And choking off and on (everything is thickened now). He is more awake during the day. He is talking more the past few weeks, but more nonsensical. So confusing.

Even the hospice nurse is surprised. 2 weeks ago she was sure he was headed for end stage.

The only difference is that we got the constipation resolved and he is regular now (phew) and he is sleeping better.

Yes, the ups and downs are confusing. Here today, gone tomorrow.

I thought we had made a solid upturn and I called the adult daycare to see if we could start back a little… nope that didn’t last.  One step forward, two steps back.

The dichotomy is difficult to say the least.
