Mourning my loss, and wandering alarm available

My dear sweet 94 yr Mum died 10 days ago - at home, with all her children holding her hand as she left us.  I had put her in home hospice care earlier in March due to her contracting a UTI, then pneumonia.  The antibiotics she took for the pneumonia helped her to rebound, but then I think she was just plain tired.  She ran out of heartbeats.

I am so missing her as I was her caregiver for the last 17 months (I pulled her out of Assisted living during COVID which was the best thing), we had angels watching over her in the form of other beautiful caregivers so now the house is empty and quiet.

I have never regretted one second of having Mum here with me - what an honour and privilege to be with her to hold her hand as she passed - sad for me, but happy for her that she is free from her crippled wee body.  God bless her.

As an aside, she had pretty severe dementia, and wandered at night.  I purchased a "SafeWander" alarm for her which I am most happy to pass along to whoever might consider using it.  I thought it was wonderful.  It is a small button that attaches to the garment (in her case her nightie) and measures the angle of inclination when the patient arises.  She would get up from bed, the alarm bangs on my phone (and you can add multiple phones to the app so her caregivers would know when she was getting up).  It is a wonderful app, I highly recommend it.

If you are interested, please let me know and I'll be happy to pass it along.  All I have to do is delete my account, then you get the system, and set it up for your own use.

I have loved this forum, it was very helpful for me along my journey of loving Mum until her time was up.  Keep up the good work all of you!

Heartfelt condolences on the loss of your mom. It's good to hear about caregivers overcoming all the odds to keep their loved one safe and comfortable at home all the way to the end of days. It sounds like the SafeWander alarm was a great help in protecting your mom (and your peace of mind). So very generous of you to want to pass the alarm along to another family. I would be interested in using that alarm for my DH. He's in early stages of wandering - so far, not exit-seeking - but being alerted when he gets of of bed would be a great help.  If you haven't found someone to pass the alarm to, please email me at [email protected] to arrange for the cost of shipping.
