Sharing A Poem

I wrote this untitled poem in response to abc123, in hopes it provides her some solace, I hope it will for everyone.

*********************************************************

I hold your hand because I still can

Enjoy the love we share and all we understand

I fill the bird feeder for you to still see

The beauty you’ve always enjoyed, the joy it brings

I am still here, I’m being the daughter you desire

Your strength and courage mom I’ve always admired

I’ve been so blessed each day of my life, lucky to have been your child

While you’re still here, we’ll continue to build fond memories in shared smiles

What I know is this is your life and when you do depart

You’ll always continue to fill a special place in my heart

I loved you in the past, I love you now and I will always love you

For who you were, who you are and for all you will continue to do

It’s in the words you spoke and the deeds you did and the joy you made

It’s in knowing the peace we will both find in the end of this stage

Your poem made me cry. It's so much what I think and feel right now. Mom is nearing the end and even though I've been grieving the last six plus years, it's the finality of her being gone that's really hitting me. Not being able to hold her hand and see her smile. So heartbreaking. I will always carry her in my heart.

Hello! I've also started writing poetry too though I started writing mine after losing my mother to Alzheimer's back in October. I loved your poem and it reminds me of the quiet moments when I would sit with my mom and think about the present and the future. Thank you for sharing your poem. If you would like to exchange poems, please let me know as I'd be happy to share mine as well. Thank you again for sharing.

Thank EJ97 and Reescleo, I glad you enjoyed the poem. Blessings to you both!

Reescleo, I’ve been writing poems for over 50 years but only this year have written any dealing with care giving and or dementia. Being able to express in this way what hubby and I are dealing with is so much of a release and reminder for myself. I encourage you to continue writing and share your poems here like I’ve done. We are busy with mom (she lives with us) soI don’t have much time for much else, sorry. Thanks for your feedback take care and keep writing!

Your poem is lovely. Thank you for sharing it.

I have also been working on a song (I am a musician) for my mom, called Butterfly.

    Warm regards <3
