Here is a bit of brighter news amidst all the many sad postings recently:
Every time I arrive at DH's MCF, I announce my presence. I get there just before lunch; DH is seated in his "spot", quiet, usually with his eyes closed. I stand in front of him and say, "The girl of your dreams is here!" Staff within earshot will smile, sometimes a resident will comment, but DH is oblivious, seated, staring or with eyes closed. No reaction. Yesterday, I arrived, pulled down my mask, stood in front of him and made my announcement. He opened his eyes, looked directly at me, smiled, and said, "Hello". I was surprised, but a caregiver with whom I have become good friends and who was on duty at his cottage yesterday burst into tears. When I left after visiting, the caregiver walked me out to my car. She said his reaction made her day. After our exchange, DH retreated back into his little world, but for a moment it was golden. I am happy today. Isn't it funny how the little things can make such a difference.
