Dear CRUSHED,
Your expertise is needed. My parents have moved from Texas to Louisiana. Mom has Alz. How do we go about switching banks in regards to moms SS check? Do we contact the SS office? Or does the bank handle this ?
Thank you!
Sincerely,

Abc and crushed (when you respond)--glad to hear from both of you, haven't seen many posts from either of you lately. Hope all is as well as possible.0

Abc …. When my parents moved from Alabama to Illinois, we left their joint account open( even after my step/dad moved most of the balance out). We just changed the mailing address. The social security and pensions checks go in direct deposit, the automated withdrawals still happen. Including the rent for their AL here in Illinois. 2.5 years later, still going on. If your dads name is on it, he could still write checks from it. Or he could create automated transfers to his bank in his new state
I second M1- we’ve missed both you and Crushed.

ABC, I just last week asked the bank if they still do forms for as direct deposit, changing from one bank to another. I was told no, banks are not allowed to do that anymore because of all the fraud. Not legal advice just what I was told by bank. Best of luck to you. Hope you are doing well, such miss seeing your post!0

Ditto I was thinking about Crushed this morning.0

If you have an online Social Security account for her, you can change the direct deposit online.

This is a major reason for becoming a representative payee with Social security
all the suggested workarounds can
Can your mom still sign her name on a new account or is she past that ?if past, leave the account where it is and have him file the RP application and you put a new account on the application. until then just have the money transferred by check or otherwise to the new bank

Just had Birthday for DD#2May was rough but I survived. DW looks so lovely but there is simply no "there" there
50 years since I first kissed her/.
I recently found her box of contraceptive devices she used in her lectures for College freshmen and a bunch of other stuff that brought back memories. it had been put in an old suitcaseOh well
