Tricks, resources for keeping up on medicines

My 76-year-old mom has been diagnosed in the past year with a mild cognitive impairment and inoperable lung cancer. She has medicines to take in the morning and in the evening.

My question: Is there a service I can use to make sure she is taking her medicines?

I am in Idaho and she is in Maryland. She doesn't want full time care and doesn't want to move.

I need help making sure she is taking her meds.

Suggestions?

Sorry to say but probably unless someone is there to see her take it, there's no way to tell if she took them or not, even if she said she did.

I've been looking into senior day cares and some locations can offer transportation and medical administration on site if they have the right credentials for that. My area doesn't offer any unless I want to drive two hours with my mom. Maybe you can have better luck if you look in your mom's area.

Good luck! Long distance caretaking is very challenging.

My brother and I were also doing the long distance caregiving.  We started my moms care with split shifts, not full time.  Three hours in the am and three hours in the afternoon/evening. We chose three hours cause that was the service’s minimum.  Her meds and meals were overseen along with her well-being.  Also later on we installed cameras which helped a lot with supervision.  My moms dementia wasn’t MCI though.  I would sell it as a help to your well being, knowing that she’s not alone.  Hopefully she’ll allow the help for your sake at least.

Welcome to the forum but sorry for your circumstances. Lots of wisdom here, this forum is such a help for me and mine.  Thanks for sharing.

Try Hero. It is a company with a web based pill dispenser that can be set and monitored for compliance of taking meds. It’s worked very well for my mom. Highly recommended.
