That was quick. DH is back in hospice
Different provider. Evaluated DH and enrolled him. They know he was just discharged from another hospice co but that had no bearing on their assessment. Felt that what they observed plus the Drs reco and DH’s recent history qualified him, no question. I almost cancelled the appointment as I’m really tired right now. But glad we went through with it. So, after a short vacation from hospice, a whole new team is about to swoop in and help support him. I’m exhausted but/thus relieved.
His oxygen and BP were really low & new nurse made some other observations that had not yet caught my attention. I think they will be good. Condition seems stable but shaky. It seems entirely possible he may not be here in 6 mos, though you never know. Signing the DNR and discussing funeral contacts as part of hospice intake makes you face facts, again. It sucks to be glad that he qualifies for this level of care.
Wanted to update you all. I do agree what we hear on these boards all the time... call another provider and see what they have to offer. The hospice care agencies are all different. DH is still seeing and hearing (nonexistent) things this week but aside from being pretty snippy with me today, his current meds seem to be ok. They will focus on trying to stabilize his respiratory issues and may make dementia med tweaks in the next week or 2. We will see.

That’s great! So happy for you that you again have that level of support.0

BW that's just good news, so glad you went through the appointment and knew to call another provider..... Yes ironic that qualifying for hospice is good news.0

BW, I’m glad you have the support again and they sound like they will be very proactive. If you don’t mind my asking, what other issue did they notice? I’ve noticed the hospice nurses pick up on a lot of things I don’t, which is good.0

Thanks everyone-
May. the nurse connected his hallucinations, an observation about his med levels + things he has not reacted well to (meds) and asked me about his tremors which I hadn’t mentioned. She was really observing him and suggested he may have mixed dementia, not just AD. So interesting because JJAz just posted a similar heads up to my “he’s hallucinating” thread without even knowing about the tremors or other symptoms. Could be LBD as well.
I’m taking it slow this weekend (hopefully!) to be ready for the new crew to start their visit schedule and get us both acclimated to new faces & personalities.

This is good news; Hospices can be very different from one another and some are more on top of things and even more beneficent than others. It also sounds that the new RN is more on top of things; that is a big plus for ou and your dear husband. Sending best wishes for this to be a huge positive for you.
