Mom did awesome with her walker last Tuesday
The problem we keep having is that our LO won't use her walking aides or wheelchair. No matter how many times we ask her to use them, or how many times she agrees to, she will not (maybe a mix of anagsnosia and just forgetting).
I hadn't really seen her using her walker since she got discharged from the hospital last January, but we went and tried it out at a park last Tuesday. I hadn't taken her out by myself for awhile because it is always a risk with her moods. I just had a good feeling about the day, and she was clear and energetic. She really did amazing with it! She didn't try to let go of her walker and leave it. She held on to it diligently. She let me know when she was tired. She suggested directions to go. She drank her water when prompted. She kept a steady pace. She stopped when she needed help getting around something. It was just an enjoyable time for me and very encouraging to see that she still has those skills.
It is kind of hard to slow down and remember that despite what a great day Tuesday was, that those days can't happen every day. For one thing, it is just too hot to be out long with her. I have thought about taking her to the local mall to get more exercise by walking around and letting her browse the stores. I have kind of gotten stuck at the part where I feel obligated to talk to someone there beforehand and let them know that her behavior can get kind of out of control and that I might need to take her back to the car kicking and hollering.
I want to see her progress. It is tough to weigh the risks versus the payouts. During her next doctor's visit I want to talk to them about getting her a physical therapist who can better instruct me on what to do for her.

Those kinds of days are great! Glad it worked out. agree - go slow, see how it goes, try to gauge mood, etc. But when it goes well, it's a good memory to treasure.0

Chalk that one up as a win. Hang on to every win you can get.0

Glad everything went well. Yes, hold on to those good days. Physical/Occupational therapy can be a great help to you both.0

What a wonderful day! Having P.T. come and assist is a great idea; hopefully your mother will begin to to not even notice the walker and will come to accept it as a normal part of her day.
Great job, you are a blessing to your mother.
