My client was very upset

Hi, I am a caregiver.  I watch and help take care of a man who was diagnosed 2 years ago. He asks where his car is at least once a day. He would even try to go look for it. I am to try to redirect him. Tonight he got very angry and was cursing pretty bad at me. I have been taking care of him for 5 months now. I have been going over in my head all night. What did I do wrong?? We were listening to the music channel he enjoys. He looked at me and asked, where is my car??  He has these notes on his wall next to his recliner.  I read them to him. He gets confused at times, on where he is. His sisters have these notes for him. He wanted nothing to do with them tonight. (The notes)  he lives in a assistance living facility. I would love to hear some advice.. thanks so much.

Hi PJfaler - welcome to 'here'...

unfortunately, you can't reason with him. You are doing great with at least attempting to redirect.  Who has POA/HIPAA supervision for him?  It sounds like he needs a medication adjustment for this agitation.

What does the note for the car say?

For us, notes/labels were good for awhile.  They eventually lost their value.  Could the notes actually be a sad reminder to him now?

Not sure what kind of redirecting you're using, but many of us are a fan of the  fiblet.

Your car's in the shop. They can't get parts due to supply chain issues. Etc.

You might want to discuss this option with whoever hired you.

Caregivers are such a blessing. Thank you for your work, please don't give up. You are needed.
