Dad's Paranoia

I haven't been here in some time. My dad has gotten better physically, but continues his decline cognitively. He has been started on Serequel by the doctor because of his aggressive behavior. It has helped, but paranoia has been a new symptom. He calls me and tells me that I have stolen his money. That is upsetting, but he is also telling others in my family. I know it's the disease and he can't help it, but I am so upset.

I had to write it down. Somewhere. I am so upset.

So sorry Malta, this is tough but, there are a few things you can try until this passes (it will pass).

    1. You can say I’m sorry, I forgot to tell you I needed the money to get your favorite snack (then give him he favorite snack)

    2. Ask him how much money it was and then suggest you’d help him look for the ($10) or whatever the amount. Tell him you hate it when your money gets misplaced too. You can consider putting the ($10) in his coat/short pocket and ask if he’s checked there.

    3. Tell him you wouldn’t take money from anyone and then deflect to something else.

Good luck, I hope one of these will work for you!
