stomach pain basically every day

My DH has Alzheimers along with Parkinsons. He is extremely sensitive to everything it seems. He feels hot then cold all day long. But what I am wondering here is if anyone has had this experience - of past surgeries (in his case, 2 inguinal hernia surgeries) about 6 years ago which has left him (still) with a burning type of stomach pain. He has been checked out by various doctors, had scans and colonoscopies, etc. and there hasn't been anything found to "fix". We are mostly vegan and I cook most of our meals, which are pretty mild because that's what he likes. Our PCP has suggested that the scar tissue from his hernia surgeries is bothering him, and I have to think this is very likely true. Does anyone have any experience with anything like this? I give him Tylenol, Tums, and try to get him to sleep more elevated. He was on Omeprizil for a while but it did nothing and our GI doc said it could cause more issues so we discontinued that. I'm just wondering if this sounds alarming to you, or if many have similar experiences. Honestly I think he's just very sensitive to his environment inside and out, and if I appease him somehow, he seems to "forget" the pain until the next time he complains.

My DH has FTD and had hernia surgery 9 years ago.  He also complained about pain in the area of his hernia surgery along with testicle pain.  He was examined by a couple of doctors, and they found no problem with the surgery.  His body has always been very sensitive to a lot of things.  He was diagnosed a few years ago with severe lead poisoning.  He's been thru chelation to remove as much lead as possible and a lot of the sensitivity stopped.  But he still has some issues.  Not sure this really helped or answered you.  But that's our story.

Interesting in that the pain is post-inguinal hernia repair.  Our DIL had inguinal hernia surgery and months later on was having the type of pain described.  She is not one to cry "uncle" for nothing, but it was really quite painful.

She had seen her  primary care doc, a GI specialist, the surgeon who had done her surgery and later, was sent to a different surgeon.  What they found was that the issue was from the mesh used in her hernia repair and was mechanical in nature.  After that was fixed and a different srt of mesh used, she was fine and no problems since.

Interesting, thank you, I thought the idea of scar tissue bothering him seemed reasonable. I hadn't considered the mesh. I can't imagine him going thru any more surgery. Sigh. So frustrating.

Believe it or not my DH was complaining of pain in his stomach area and I was struggling to figure out if it was internal or on the skin.  I finally told him to stop wearing his big heavy belt (he doesn't need it with the shorts he's been wearing).  Now he says he's fine!  Not sure if it really was the belt or if there even was much in the way of pain.

Hello again, Belldream.   I only mention a mesh issue following inguinal repair surgery as our DIL had mesh problems that began quite a few months after her surgery.   She had chronic abdominal pain.  Her original surgeon more or less blew her abdominal pain off; but she consulted again with her primary care MD and he had her see another surgeon in consult. After exam and some diagnostics, it was considered necessary to do a laparasopic procedure.

(Years earlier, there was a particular mesh that was so problematic, there were over 100,000 plus instances of significant issues reported.  That mesh was recalled and is no longer used and was not the culprit in our DILs situation.)

However; despite the new mesh being used, our DIL still had a mesh issue occur.  Mesh, after months or years can sometimes begin to "migrate," or it can become "deformed."  Our DILs did both. It had migrated a bit and had also kinked or folded a bit upon itself.   The removal of the offending mesh and insertion of a new and better seated mesh was done by laparoscopic surgery and she has done very well; all pain gone.

One can consult about this with one's physician as this may or may not pertain to  your husband's ongoing complaints of abdominal pain; diagnosis can be difficult especially when dementia is part of the picture.

Best of wishes and hope all goes well.
