in home care and car use question

Does anyone have an in-home care person that uses your car for errands or to take their LO out and about? If so, is there a special insurance you get for this? I've had caregivers use their own car but haven't been in a situation where the caregiver may use our car.

Call your insurance agent + make sure they would be covered + verify that they have a valid drivers license. As long as they were a competent driver, I would allow this. Doesn’t the worker have their own car? I actually would rather compensate them for the use of their own vehicle by the mile0

Caregivers I've found from a website will use their own vehicles but I haven't had great luck with the people who have responded. My mom just needs companion care at this point - someone to chat with, go on walks with, etc as she lives with us. We've met nice people but there's a lot of inconsistencies with being on time and sticking to a schedule. Thus I'm looking into finding someone through a caregiving company.0

Speak to your agent about the caregiver driving.
I found with my dad, he did better in cars with which he was familiar-- his big sedan and mom's minivan. I could get him in and out of my Honda, but it was too low for him by the time he needed companion-care to do this easily. Our Miata (too low) and Jeeps (too high and way too high)
An agency will typically be more money, but they should have a stable of people who they can send. One issue in finding this sort of help-- whether through an agency or care.com-- is that most folks are looking for close to 40 hours and a fairly predictable schedule. If you only want 15, you will not be attractive to most of them. Sometimes good part time companions can be found word of mouth through places like church, work or friends who might know of someone who does this more as a side hustle.

When mom was out of state, her primary caregiver would drive her on errands and appts in my mother’s car. I let the insurance company know and it wasn’t a problem. I think they wanted a copy of her drivers license. When we moved mom to CO we sold the car to said caregiver. win/win. Some of the caregivers cars were not ideal for mom to ride in.0
