My LO

My LO is my 95 year old cousin with Alzheimer's Disease.  She lives in herhome with 24/7 caregivers.  I telephone her every week to keep in contact.  I'm sure she doesn't quite know who I am.  The other day, our conversation went like this:

Her:  my sister was supposed to visit me but she isn't here yet.

(her sister died over ten years ago.)

Me: when did you speak with her?

Her: I don't know.

Me: maybe she got busy.

Her: too busy to come see me?

Then she said: when are you coming to see me?

Me: It's a long distance, I can't drive by myself.

Her: Take a taxi!

Me: It's too far, a taxi would cost $1000!

Her: So?

To an outsider, she might sound like she's having a normal conversation, but I know the reality.  Someone asked why I still call her when she doesn't know me, but I know her, and she's my mother's last remaining cousin.

Victoria - I think that is well said.

Iris, it sure does sound as if she certainly does still know who you are. Just obviously not the logistics over-all.  And even if not, it seems she acknowledged you as one who cares, which is still a good thing.
