Thank you(13)

I have only posted here a few times, but I read daily.

My mother passed away last week.  Thank you to everyone on these boards for the support and knowledge given to me on my journey with her.

My mother lived alone in a different state for many years, but in 2019 I realized that she needed to not be alone anymore.  I moved her to my state in 2020 and we got to spend that pandemic lock-down year together.  At the end of 2020 she was diagnosed with stage 3 bladder cancer.  She chose treatment and completed a 6 week course of chemo and radiation.  At this time she was at Stage 4 of her dementia journey.  She fell and broke her hip just days after completing treatment and spent about 3 weeks in the hospital and rehab.  She came home to my house, roughly Stage 6 but recovered both physically and cognitively.  After 2 months with me in my home I moved her to a very supportive assisted living community.  She settled in there and thrived, continuing to become more physically strong, made friends and was happy there.

In April this year we learned the cancer had come back.  It was terminal.  She passed on September 8th.

I'm grateful every day for the extra time I got with my mother these past few years.  I could not have supported her without the resource of these message boards.

I moved her to my state thinking I would get a team of medical professionals that would explain to my mom that she needed to let me help her and she would understand.  You all helped me see the fallacy in this and taught me how to help her anyway.

The last years I got with my mom were wonderful because we were together and because of what I learned here.  Thank you.
