Re: Test/Experiment
Of course, the test/experiment was a success. I know it's only one day and I will continue the test/experiment. But the fact is, every day for the last week or two, 4 o'clock comes around and its, "Please...I want to go to bed" and Day 1 of this experiment, she didn't mention it once. She did ask why all the lights were on a few times, but never did she say she wanted to go to bed. I will keep doing this and report back if there's a change or something. This site has helped me more than I can ever say. Almost like finding a silver lining in hell. Because this is hell and not one good thing comes from it. It's horrible and a nightmare. And it only gets worse. I take every day without incident a *$%& blessing. I send thanks to everyone here who has helped me through these incidents.
Next issue (I believe) will be my mom's lack of eating dinner. She's pretty good at breakfast and lunch and some snacks throughout the day, but there's nothing like slaving over 3 burners on the stove to hear, "I'm not really hungry..."

My FIL is slowing down eating dinner too, I think it’s because he’s tired. We have started adding more snacks and an ensure in the afternoon in case he doesn’t want to eat dinner. Something that might be a time saver for you, it is for us, we cook 3-4 days worth of food (like potatoes, veggies and a meat) and just add gravy and heat it up for him (they sell white and brown gravy in a jar). He doesn’t remember he had the same thing the night before.
I do the same for breakfast all except the eggs, but the sausage and biscuits are all cooked ahead of time.

My mom only eats two meals a day. Kind of a later breakfast and about 4 pm lunch/dinner. She never really expresses hunger anymore but this schedule seems to work.
Unfortunately she’s gained weight too. I know this because I ordered a livestock scale so it would be big enough to hold her and be on the scale with her. I was sure she must have lost weight since we weighed her many many months ago. I was trying to get the reading for hospice since we’re on the cusp of being discharged…again. If she lost weight that could help in our favor. Yesterday three hospice staff and I got her off the bed and onto the scale. FAIL… she gained weight and hated the uncomfortable process of getting weighed. Another dumb mistake I’ve made.
The fact that her being stable and not weighing less is unfortunate to me is just another gross aspect of my feelings about this journey. I hate this dichotomy of wishing for my own mother’s decline but not. Just so horrible.
Really hopeful for you and yours that the test/experiment continues to be a success.

Glad your test/experiment is working and hope it continues. Why do you have to stand over 3 burners fixing a large dinner? If she has a healthy breakfast and lunch, snacks later, why a large dinner? When we both retired we did away with larger meals. My dh has Alzheimer’s and doesn’t eat breakfast but enjoys a nice little. That’s his big meal and healthy snacks later in the day. He will have a bowl of ice cream in the evening. Best of luck to you!0
