Getting him out backfires

I am an active person and am busy much of the day - taking care of the house, running errands, going to workout, walking, kayaking, out with friends and watching grandchildren. I’m trying to continue to do as much of this as I can before things change and I can’t. My DH on the other hand has enjoyed a sedentary life. I feel badly when I leave him sitting alone in front of the TV, although that is what he wants. I’ve been trying to get him out more so now since his VD diagnosis. It’s almost impossible to get him to walk except at the grocery store where he loves to buy everything that is not good for him. Well we did that today and it was so trying for me! We agreed on 2 sweets as opposed to 5 different - cinnamon buns, apple turnovers, ice cream, chips etc. He kept saying in the store “Stop yelling at me!” When I said we had the 2 he chose. Then it was soft drinks and sweet teas. Let’s choose One I say and again “Stop yelling at me!”  Our 15 minute visit to pick up a few items turned into an hour and spending $100 on garbage! He likes to grocery shop but I come home in tears and stomach pains! Do I stop bringing him and fib when I go?

As always thanks for listening!

You did have a bad time, for sure, and so very frustrating!  I don’t take my DH into the grocery store anymore.  I order my groceries on line, then we go pick them up.  It works very well.  I guess that was one good thing that’s come out of the Covid epidemic.

Sound like herding cats. I started the online, covid thing to keep dw out of the store. It worked for me.

I don't think I would take my wife anywhere that brought me home in tears with stomach pains.  I have enough grief without that.

Vascular dementia theoretically has the propensity for amelioration since it involves cardiovascular features that might be controlled with a struct duet and exercise.  On the other hand, vascular dementia is also considered to be terminal.  So, what to do?  Eat healthfully for a possible benefit, or eat whatever one wants in order to enjoy what time one has now?  What a conundrum!  I have the same issue; I feel better when I eat a low carb, nutritious high antioxidant diet.  But my steps take me to the snack and cereal and ice cream aisles.  I have to argue with myself!

You will decide how to handle.  Keep in mind there may come a time when you may have to force him to eat any food.
