Memantine ingredient in Covid drug being researched

My sister came across this article about a potential Covid drug that lists Memantine as an ingredient. I wonder if Memantine on it’s own has any effect?

I love it when scientists aren't afraid to show their excitement over a discovery.  And I love the idea of "little molecular warheads." Very visual.

“What’s really beautiful is that this only knocks down availability of ACE2 locally when the virus is coming at it,” says Lipton. “It doesn’t knock down all the function of ACE2 elsewhere in the body, allowing for normal function of this protein.”

I'm interested to know more - and hopefully there will be more.

I meant on its own against Covid.

I've been on memantine for years and I still got Covid.

Will there now be people trying to get memantine to take it proactively?

Is this why we got a pharmacy automated call this morning that memantine is out of stock and on back order? They’ll notify us when it’s back in stock.
