I'm in Berlin to lecture.  I face timed  DW and for the first time saw a whole shock of gray hair about half an inch long.  Ive had gray hair for 30 years but for some reason it made me incredibly sad. She is 70 and the last birthday that she comprehended was 65.  Our life together "froze" in 2017. I have had to go on without her.  It's funny since Berlin was the one city I used to to go to alone since I lectured in the old DDR.  Even after 1989 she rarely came here.  So being alone here is comfortable.  It is just  weird knowing she is "alive" but has no idea who I am or who she is or was.  She just exists in some black hole in what's left of her brain.  Nothing comes out . I love the memories  of our shared life with a passion .  But she is gone.

Like you said she is gone but you have the good memories of times before.  Life isn't fair sometimes but our older memories sure help a lot.

Crushed, I'm so sorry. It's the unexpected things that really get to us, things that would probably bring some smiles or teasing in normal times. It's sad and sobering all the different ways this disease affects us.
