Sometimes I do wonder if I would want to know if I am predisposed, or hopefully not quite as likely. Seems there are pros and cons, of knowing if 'this' is a high possibility, or maybe not as much.  (Just a personal point of view)

Thanks, Michael. Good to know, but I feel the same as you SusanB - do I really want to know? Right now the answer is "Not yet!"

The real question should be is how can you get the test with out them knowing your real name. If you are at high risk or even showing some small issues, I believe there is so much more you could do to delay this if you knew about it. Not to mention to get your affairs in order.

Good point without giving out all personal info on yourself...

However - Regardless of situation or any issues, I do believe everyone would benefit to have affairs in order.  FIL believed in doing so, and it has saved much, much frustration and aggravation upon his passing, and now with dealing with 'this' with MIL. They had DPOA and their wills in order years ago.  He passed totally unexpectedly one night, so, you just never know. Tomorrow is not promised.

I also agree with LicketyG... just not quite ready to know... yet.

Big risk if insurance companies somehow find out in their due diligence and if certain employers or potential employers find out plus other issues that have been experienced by others.  Even if one uses a different name, one would probably need to speak with their doctor; or perhaps want to speak to a specialist and IF certain meds are prescribed, that too would be a signal.

As for getting one's affairs in order, all of us need to do that no matter how young and healthy we may be.   I strongly recommend everyone seeking the advice of an attorney and getting a Trust, Wills, and DPOAs done; that is done all at once. One never, ever knows what will happen in one's life from an accident or sudden illness or even an abrupt death even if young . . . so best to get it done and avoid expensive probate and stating where the estate assets are to go and to whom.  Really an ounce of prevention will prevent a TON of trouble.
