Dinner in Berlin

We had a small dinner after my talk . Next to me was the wife of one of the professors. I was told she was in early dementia . We conversed slowly and carefully in my best German (which has been described as similar to a small child )
She said (in German) "I was told were an American! But you speak German very well"
I said thank you but just mentally added it to the symptoms of dementia ,"that a German thinks I speak German very well"
DW's life work was very relevant to the talk I gave about the influence of my colleagues work and I had a picture of the three of us from 1982 in the talk Memories
