ten year old computer and memories

I have a ten year old Windows 8.1 laptop computer .  All I do with it is play chess
some of the keys don't work 
But it was DW's last computer and it has her name and many pictures.  
She was a computer genius and an always needed the fastest and newest machines. 
 DW built her first Computer in 1977.  My first in 1980  over the years we acquired many many more.  My computers were her personal "hand-me-downs".   (she also had a ton of federal government computers but I never touched them.)  This was the last machine she could operate and in 2013 she sent her last email.
 I just got a notice that Microsoft would no longer support 8.1  It felt like a funeral. 
 Computers were central to DWs career and hobbies and family.  She loved the connection it gave her to the rest of the world.  I loved sitting in the audience with the children while she stunned the world with creativity .  She always needed pockets in her skirts for tools.  
odd memories but somehow  very warm

If you want to, I think you can upgrade to Windows 10, but not 11. I'm pretty sure you can upgrade without losing anything.

Lovely memories Crushed, thank you for sharing them.  I’m impressed with the way you supported your wife in her career, and your ego obviously wasn’t threatened by her success.  My DH was the same way.

MaryG  I asked her to marry me  because she was simply the smartest young woman I ever met. She was also ambitious. 
She said sure but she needed a wife , did I want that job ?  

I answered  humorously But will I be sexually exploited ?
 She answered "of course "

So I said "its a deal"

Amazing Just after I posted this comment Windows relented and offered the program for windows 10 machines !!


I now have it running on several machines.  

I can retire DWs computer and extract its hard disk
