My DH developed nearly complete urinary incontinence this summer. Before then, he'd have accidents, but they were infrequent. He has mobility issues, so I bought him urinals to have beside his chair. And I check with him every couple of hours to see if he needs to go. I don't think that he can tell if he needs to urinate, and if he goes in the diaper, he doesn't know that he is wet. As a result, he developed rashes and sores on his bottom. From this experience, I learned that he can't tell me if his diaper is wet, so I have to check every couple of hours and help him shift positions. For now the goal is to keep him clean and dry. I use diaper rash cream with zinc to add protection. Is there anything else that I can try?

My grandmother use to have the same issues. She is fully incompetent. I bought a mattress for her bed. It’s like an air mattress that moves air every 6 minutes. We’ve been using it for three months. Haven’t had another bed sore.0
