Neuropathy in Hands - Still

I'm back with the same problem - neuropathy in LO hands. Mostly, his thumb, index, middle finger of his right hand. Some pain in his left. The Gabipentine works some and then not at all. He is now taking it 3x a day (total 300 mgs). He is still very unhappy and told me that he will cut his hand off. I can't stand that he is in pain, but I still think about him stopping ALL his medication. What would happen? I am just worn out with worry.  I don't know what to do or if this is just what he has to learn to live with?

Why are we being tortured?

Malka have you tried putting him in a split to see if that would help? Pretty harmless to try. Look for Comfort brand spica splint on Amazon (about $25). Washable, flexible and easy to take on and off.

Not that you'd pursue it, but it could be coming from his neck, his wrist, thumb, many things. The fact that it's only in the three fingers makes me think it might not be neuropathy, that usually would get all of the fingers and predominantly the tips.

My Mom ( age 83)  got put on the same dosage of gabapentin as your LO for what we are pretty sure IS  neuropathy( feet and  hands).  We’ve been waiting for months for her appointment at a neuropathy clinic( it will be in December)  and we finally persuaded the PCP to start her on gabapentin in the meantime.  It isn’t helping - I believe the dosage isn’t high enough,  but I don’t want it changed before the clinic visit. I don’t want the specialist to say ‘ wait for it to kick in / see you in six months’.   My spouse is on a 600 mg tablet and that seems to work for him,  He just got switched a month ago from Horizant to straight gabapentin because  Medicare wouldn’t cover Horizant.

Thank you for your response. My dad is up to 300 mg a day (100 mg 3x). We are going into the 4th week of this. I was thinking of calling and asking if I could up it, but wasn't sure of how long to wait. I cannot stand to see him in pain.

    Thanks,

At this point, I think you need to consider Cissus Quadrangularis. It's an herb and a natural remedy, but that doesn't mean it won't be effective for your dad. You can get it on amazon for around $15-$20. I think it's worth a shot.

Here's one of many reviews for it:

"I have been using this for some time for my knee pain. I have arthritis in both of my knees. I usually bicycle to work and when I get off from work, my knees were aching to the point I could barely pedal. After a few weeks of using this twice a day, the knee pain was gone. I have no problem riding the bike after my shift anymore. This tells me that this stuff really works and I am happy to recommend it to anyone suffering joint pain."
