Welcome, Nutty! most of the people here do have (or have had in the past) a relative or friend with dementia. Anybody is welcome! It sounds like you're very concerned about your mom-- if you have specific questions, this is the right place to ask them! Also, spend some time reading other threads-- there is a huge amount of good knowledge floating around here, for free!0

Thank you for welcoming me. I am trying to be positive about the advancing stages my mother is going through but it takes time to adjust. She began hullicinating a few weeks ago and I hoped it would be temporary. They were confusing because they made no sense. I lost my patience a few times and yelled at her then needed to remind myself she has no control over them.0

Thank you 3886 for answering my question. I am keeping a journal and noting the positive highlights of the day with my mother but it gets lonely0

My Mama (96) was recently put on hospice care by her Doctor. Hospice provided a drug called Lorazapam for Mama for the agitation and hallucinations. It really works well for her. Calms her down and makes it easier to deal with her when trying to help her do things.
Her caregivers and I have noticed a heightened agitation/hallucination thing at the height of a moon phase for a number of months now and hospice has said that yes, that IS a thing with dementia patients. We make sure she is getting sufficient doses of the Lorazapam during the course of 24 hours as the moon phase moves to full. That has had a good effect in helping us to keep her calm.
Talk to your Mom's Doctor about hospice care for her. She shows a lot of the same things that mine has over the past few weeks...less appetite, etc....and the help from hospice is so welcome. Medicare has covered all of it to this point making it possible for us.
