Dementia and mobility issues

 Hi everyone!

Is anyone starting to have problems getting around and have to depends on others to get around?

I’m not getting out much.

So I don’t walk much anymore but I do around house up/down stairs at night.

I now use walker when going outside the house.

I’m now having trouble standing more than 30 minutes.

I no longer drive  and walking down street is harder then before.

I fear that I am slowing down and don’t know what to do or what’s happening to me.

When were you diagnosed?  Eventually, mobility does become an issue and definitely the issues progress.

Have you discussed the fact that you feel you're slowing down with your doctor?  Is there someone who helps you regularly who might be able to say whether they see a "slowing down?"

Sorry you are going through this.  I believe you should definitely discuss with your doctor. Mobility issues can develop as the illness progresses.

Amy, I agree that you should see your doc about slowing down. It could be due to the dementia or it could be another issue. If it is another issue, then perhaps there’s a treatment. If it is the dementia, then you need to know so that you can plan accordingly. For example, is it reasonable to just live on the first floor of your home?

Amy Joy, decreased mobility is to be expected.  But you should see if there is a specific reason.  Do you live alone?  Do you think about moving to where there are no stairs?

    How did your colonoscopy go?

    Hi everyone!

My doctor encouraged me to be more active.

I’m having trouble with stairs and walking without the walker from arthritis.

My heart goes to 130 just from walking and I tire easily.

    My colonoscopy is Friday.

I have to stop eating tonight and prep for test.

    Have a nice night

Amy, I have arthritis also.  In addition to pain medication, I have found that certain stretching and strengthening exercises and warm baths help me.  If you have access to a hot tub, that can give some relief.  Ask your doctor.

Also ask if your local hospital offers a "balance survey" from the physical therapy department.  We need to know what to do to maintain our balance.

    Best wishes with your colonoscopy!

     Hi Iris!

    Thanks for advice!

I had test at the hospital

I was able to use a wheelchair to get around the hospital

I have to go back to get tests results.

I might be seeing a memory care unit that is one level.

As long as I can get around at home I will stay at home.

It was recommended that I plan for future while I still can.

Amy Joy, it's good that the polyps were removed.  I know you feel glad that all is over for now.
