Covid again!

It’s in my parents’ AL also. They sent everyone to their individual apartments Saturday afternoon, tested everyone Sunday. Monday the ones who tested negative were allowed to go to the dining hall, masked. Two hours after they were first confined to their apartment, Mom called and said she felt like she was in prison. She and dad are very early in in this journey, fully in our reality, and perfectly capable of being safe in their two bedroom apartment. With cable tv and meals being brought to them0

Yes they are doing meals in the room as well. Visitation is still open right now. Last Saturday a resident had a large gathering in a room provided, there was 30 plus people and lots of children, nobody was masked because they felt safe because they were all alone. I left and not sure I will go back again today. I always mask and wash my hands before I go in.0

Stewart, I am sorry that is happening. You always take special care so that should keep you in good stead. Hopefully this will be a smaller outbreak.
Saw on the news that one of the SNFs in our local area has had so many COVID cases surface, that they are closed down to visitors and are isolating patient residents. Everything opened up so fully and much common sense precaution fell by the wayside as though the entire COVID situation was over and gone, even though we have been receiving warnings about the winter on the news programs. Crowds gather, holidays gather groups and it is winter with most everyone inside together.
We have more COVID than we realize lurking and percolating. We no longer test as was being done, and not everyone has been vaccinated and with those who were vaccinated in the beginning, not all of them have continued to get the full vaccinations; it certainly is still around. It is expected per specialists that the cases will increase over the winter with more experiencing significant illness, especially if not vaccinated or fully vaccinated. Once again, those who do not vaccinate will dispense their largesse upon others, and the elderly and those with immune issues including diabetes will be at significantly higher risk for getting the virus and for being more ill when contracting it.
Our DIL and son just had RSV; they were terribly ill for over two weeks. DIL has diabetes, she required more medical care. They have no idea where it was contracted; in all probability at work. DIL had it first and then son contracted it some days later. Influenza is also getting pretty rife out here, so that too is in the mix.
The masks that work best with the new COVID variants are the N95 and the KN95, (good to check to see if they are NIOSH approved and not knock offs.) Other masks are not as effective against the present COVID virus variants. And of course; hand washing, hand washing, hand washing. (Did I remember to say hand washing?)
So hope all goes well Stewart, your oversight and advocacy for your wife is excellent; she is blessed to have your care, and may we and our LOs all stay well.
J.

Stewart, I'm sorry you have yet another covid problem. I'm hoping it subsides, and your wife gets through it unscathed. I don't think covid is terrible here yet, but I just saw a graph saying we were at the second highest bar for flu now. Let's all pull for spring.0

Well they have only had 1 more case so far, but they are doing a great job of isolating folks, that is sooooo hard. They went back to full gear going into someone's room who is sick.
This is something I never heard about. Meltaway laundry bags. They put the dirty laundry in and seal it, then they can throw bag and all into the machine and it dissolves. They have probably been around and I just never heard of them.
