MC typically takes care of all activities of daily living, meaning showers, other hygiene services, handle medications (including ordering, if you opt for that), and help with eating, if needed. And help in the bathroom. Hair cutting, nail cutting, and laundry services typically offered. They also typically have different activities for the residents. This might include playing games, sing alongs, live music, etc. They also have security systems so the residents can not just walk out of the facility unaccompanied. A physician is available, and if he/she is used, they make visits to check on patient's health.

They do everything that an Assisted Living Facility (ALF) does, but they usually have higher staffatient ratio and they have locked doors to keep patients from wandering.  At higher intensity levels, they also handle incontinence issues that many ALFs won't do.

To know what a specific MC facility will do you will need to check their license.

    What everyone else said.

My sister's memory care facility does a lot what Ed describes. This particular facility tailors some of the activities to the interests of the residents. For example, my sister was always a singer (in bands, choirs, etc.) so they often do karaoke. And like JJAz says, there's a fairly high staff to patient ratio - which makes sense.

I'm pretty grateful for this particular memory care facility. They take excellent care of my sister.

    P.S. I love your photo!!
